Jen Wingrove

I'm Jen Wingrove, a self-taught artist with roots deeply embedded in Africa, having been born in Zambia and lived across Zimbabwe and South Africa. My journey with art began in my childhood, where a fascination with colour, people, and the beauty in the mundane took hold. Despite my aspirations to pursue formal studies in art, life took its own turns. Marriage and raising two wonderful daughters filled my days, with painting becoming an intermittent yet ever-present passion.

Upon retiring, I found the space to devote myself more seriously to painting, inspired by the vibrant light and scenic beauty of a small fishing village on the West Coast of Cape Town. This serene setting was home until the arrival of our grandchildren prompted a move to the UK, landing us in Ellon.

This transition brought with it a stark contrast in light, fauna, flora, and landscapes — a far cry from the African environment I knew so well. Yet, every day, I am captivated by the beauty that surrounds us, finding extraordinary colours amidst the greys of our new home.

Colour is the essence of my work; it feeds my soul. As I continue to paint, I aim to capture the essence of what I see in everyday life, hoping to offer you a glimpse into my world. My art is an invitation to see through my eyes, to find joy and wonder in the ordinary, and to celebrate the vibrant spectrum of life's palette.

I cherish the journey art has taken me on and look forward to many more years of exploration and creativity. Thank you for joining me on this adventure.
